Not so many provinces contain the essence of an old community within the entire province. Chainat is one of those provinces that has this kind of character which is pretty rare to find in Thailand. It is a place where you need to be there for yourself to really get the feel of the place.
General Information about Chainat, Thailand
Chainat is a province that literally means a roaring victory. It has a long history since the establishment of the province during the Sukhothai era. The province is located near the right bank of Chao Phraya River and occupies an area of 2,469 square kilometers which is not too far from Bangkok. To get in here, you can drive for 194 kilometers from Bangkok or take a taxi. Another way to get here is to take a bus from the Northern Bus Terminal in Bangkok which takes around two and a half hours to get here.
The famous attractions in Chainat, Thailand
As with every other province, Chainat consists of many famous places that I do not have enough time to tell you all about them. However, I have a list of really famous ones that you all should go and see once in your life. I am sure that you will not regret it at all! If you are ready, read on!
Chainat?s Bird Park
The first famous place that I am going to introduce to you is called Chainat?s Bird Park. It is a very well-known attraction of Chainat. Inside of this place, there are various species of bird, including Thai and foreign species. This place has more than 63 cages you can explore, including a water park! They even have one of the biggest bird cages in Asia as well! The interior of the cage is designed to resemble a natural habitat, so the bird will not become stressful while they are in there. There is also a bird egg museum you can see which comprises of various species of bird eggs. You can also learn about the lifecycle of each species of birds. There is a display of fishes in the Chao Phraya River that includes more than 90 species of freshwater fishes, including endangered and rare species.
Wat Phra Kaew
If you come to Thailand, you most likely want to visit a temple at least once and here is the most famous one in Chainat. Wat Phra Kaew is one of the temples that has an important archaeological site.
The highlight of this temple is Luang Pho Chai which is a Buddha statue with more than 800 years old! There is also a crafted picture on the back of the statue that looks like an upside-down Shiva on the Erawan elephant. It is actually an 800 years old Kom?s Dharma puzzle. There is also a square Chedi which is a combination of art from many eras and generations. It is considered one of the most beautiful Chedi in Thailand!
Wat Khao Plong
Another temple that you should visit is Wat Khao Plong, and it is a temple that situated on the top of the mountain. Inside the temple, there is a golden Chedi that has a Buddha relic inside and a Buddha statue with a magnificent look on the face. You can also go to the most beautiful sightseeing spot of Chainat where you can observe the views with 360 degrees angle. You can watch both beautiful sunrise and sunset here, and this place also acts as a roof of the city of Chainat.
Every community has its own unique features that shine above one another. Chainat as a community also has very special attractions which are known only by the locals. If you want to really experience Chainat the way the locals do, you must follow them to know more about this place!
Local Tells
Straw Bird Puppet Festival
The first thing that is recommended by the local is straw bird puppet festival which is a big festival of the entire province and one of a kind in Thailand. This festival is held every year in February. As the name implies, this festival uses the straw from agriculture and combine it with art and local knowledge. The result is various species of birds from small ones to big ones as large as two meters. All of the districts in Chainat will compete with each other in terms of beauty. In the present day, the straw puppet is an export product, and you can observe and take pictures with the straw puppet. There are shows which present Thai culture really well here at the festival as well, including local good shops. If you are here off season, you can still see the straw bird at Chainat Bird Park.
Wat Don Chedi
This is a temple with amazing and beautiful structures which are pretty rare in Thailand! The reason behind this is because they are a combination of various architectural styles from Vientiane in the country of Laos. The structure inside the temple is designed to have multiple levels like a Chedi. The decoration itself is also magnificent with leaves that resemble fins on the back of the Naga. Inside of the structure is vast in space, and the temple is also very lovely and chilling.
Bueng Krajab Yai
This is a big natural swamp and a great spot for seeing birds in Chatnat. You can see birds like Asian openbill, duck, goose, swan, teal, and local birds. The thing that you cannot miss is the bamboo bridge which is a raft of more than 250 meters in the distance. You can rarely find a bridge like this in Thailand. Once you crossed the bridge, the place you are standing is Muang Tao Au Thong Island, and it is a place where you can watch a beautiful sunset and various species of birds. You can also take a boat tour around this beautiful swamp. Do not forget to take a lot of pictures here!
Souvenirs from Chainat, Thailand
White Pomelo
The best souvenir to buy at Chainat is white pomelo in which it is very famous in Chainat, and it has been growing here for the past 100 years. The fruit is round, smooth, and delicious. The taste is sour, but also has a nice sweet taste and not bitter at all. You can feel the crunch once you have a bite of it.

The motto for this province is venerable Luangpu Suk, renowned Chao Phraya dam, famous bird park, and tasty white pomelo.
To get around the province
You can find a lot of tuk-tuks and motorcycle taxis around. Be sure to ask about the price before you commit.
The accommodation
There are plenty of budget hotels around the province. However, you could also find some mid-range hotels. The costs for the hotel that you may find is around 300 baht per night to above 650 baht per night. Have fun!
