General Information about Buriram, Thailand
Buriram is one of the provinces in the Esan region of Thailand with many ancient structures from the Khmer culture. This town covers an area of 10,332 square kilometers and divided itself into 23 districts. In these 32 districts, you can find various findings from the past eras which scattered around the province. This shows that Buriram is a location that was rich in ancient discoveries and civilization of the past. They also called Buriram as the city of two castles which consists of Phanom Rung Castle and the Lightning Castle.
Some may also called it the city of volcanoes as there are no less than eight dormant volcanoes here. As you might have heard before, it is also a home of a really famous soccer team called the Buriram United. It is a famous soccer team that grasps all of Thai people?s heart in the league. You can also visit their stadium here too! To get here, you can drive 410 kilometers from Bangkok to Buriram or take a bus from Mo Chit 2 in Bangkok. You could also take a train from Bangkok, but it would take longer to reach here. For a faster way, flying is the best choice you have.
I would say that Buriram is pretty unique in terms of its famous places here. Visiting Thailand can be generalized into a narrow focus of culture, tradition, and other things. However, Buriram has an intriguing modern twist into all of these characteristics I have mentioned. It is best that you could go and see it for yourself.

Phanom Rung Castle
To start off this list, I would like to present you all with Phanom Rung Castle. This castle locates on top of a dormant volcano with 200 meters of height. It is the most famous Khmer rock castle in Thailand! Not only that it is a grand castle, there is a Tub Lang which is a crafted stone with beautiful details and hidden stories. One of the stones was stolen and it took around 28 years to bring it back to the castle. This castle was built during the period of 900 to 1200 AD. According to a certain belief of Hinduism, it is a place of Shiva. The main statue has a height of 28 meters in which its material is a beautiful pink stone.
The highlight of this place is the phenomenon when the sunlight shines through all 15 doors at the same time! It happens only four times in a year at a specific period of month! When the sun rises, you can see this phenomenon during April and September. When the sun set, you can see it during March and October in which all of these months reflect the calculation of the ancient Khmer.
I-mobile Stadium
If you like sports, you will love these places that I will tell you about. I-mobile Stadium is an stadium of Buriram United which is a standard FIFA soccer stadium. This time it took to build this stadium is very short that it holds the world record of 256 days. It has around 32,600 seats and you can experience the atmosphere and beauty when there is no match playing here.
Chang International Circuit
This is the biggest motorsport circuit in Thailand and it is the only circuit in Thailand that has the standard of FIA Grade 1, FIM Grade A, and the world standard for supercar races and Formula One races. The special thing about this circuit is that you can see the race in a full 180 degrees angle which means that you can see every corner of the circuit! There is a motorcycle race every month and you can visit here when there is no race as well.
Kradong Mountain
This is a dormant volcano with a height of 256 meters which has a forest covers the entire area of more than 10 square kilometers. The mouth of the volcano has turned into a crescent moon that you can visit by walking on the hanging bridge. You can also see a big golden Buddha statue on the hill from up here, including amazing sceneries.

Wat Khao Angkhan
The first place that the locals recommended is Wat Khao Angkhan. What makes this place special is the location which is directly above a dormant volcano with a height of 331 meters. While this is a small temple, but there is a Buddhist place which was built during the same period as the Phanom Rung Castle or more than 2,000 years ago, especially the beautiful three peak temple. Inside of the temple, you can see various wall arts which tell stories about Buddhism in the English language. Another special characteristic is Bai Sema with more than 1,300 years old. This thing was made from crafted basalt since the Tawarawadee era and it is the only one in Thailand! There are also other 109 Buddhist statues around the temples.
Play La Ploen
This is another place that you should go to if you love plants and flowers. There are greenhouses that showcase magnificent plants of all three seasons on an area of around 480,000 square meters in which the showcase of plants rotates all year round. There are six greenhouses and each of them has different decoration style and plants. In the winter, you will see Tulip and Lily with various colors. You can also see many species of orchids on display here, including a variety of ferns with a Jurassic atmosphere. It is the place that you can come and visit for the entire year to see new flowers for each season.
Sanam Bin Reservoir No Hunting Area
This is basically a knowledge center for nature and a great bird spotting area. You can spot wild birds, water birds, and Indian rollers. There are more than 170 species of birds that you can spot here such as Oriental darter, Knob-billed duck, Greylag goose, and more. More importantly, there is a Sarus Crane which originates in Thailand and was once believed to be extinct from Thailand, but it is here now. You can rest at the camp and see the birds at the same time here as well! The best period to see the most bird is around November to March.
Phu Akkanee fabric
A famous fabric from Charoensook Village is known as Phu Akkanee fabric. The special thing about this fabric is the white silk that used volcanic dirt to dye the fabric in which the idea came from the local knowledge of the villagers. With this natural ingredient, the fabric has an authentic light brown color with a little bit of red like a volcano. It is very unique indeed! They also have other processed goods from this kind of fabric such as scarves and more.

The motto for this province is the city of sandstone sanctuaries, the land of volcanoes, beautiful silk, and rich culture.
To get around town,
it is recommended that you travel by motorcycle, taxi, or tuktuk. You also need to bargain for the appropriate price beforehand.
