Krung Thep or Bangkok is the capital city of Thailand filled with many amazing attractions. There are millions of people living here and a great portion of them are not even locals. It is a city that has everything you can imagine of and you will surely find something here that you like to explore!

The capital city of Thailand is no other than Bangkok or Krung Thep Maha Nakhon. Its population is quite high which results in a huge traffic jam in every single day, especially near the downtown areas.

Like other famous civilizations around the globe, Bangkok has a river that runs through it called the Chao Phraya River. It is an amazing river with outstanding views! Apart from that, it is the location of the Grand Palace that is highly famous for tourists and Thais alike. This city has many aspects to it and you will have to explore it yourself to really get to know the city. To get here, you can fly from anywhere in the world or other provinces in Thailand to Suvarnabhumi or Don Muang Airport. You can either ride a taxi or get on the airport link system out of the airport to the inner city. You can take a ride on a bus from anywhere in Thailand to here as well. Another great alternative is to take a train, but it will be quite slow no matter where you are from. Have a great trip in Bangkok!

The city of Bangkok has a lot of mystery and famous places that you can only see in Thailand. However, most of them are temples and places for the Royals. There are much to cover here, but I handpicked the best of the best famous places for you for your convenience!

 

The first place is the Grand Palace which is where the five Kings during Rattanakosin era used to stay. It was built during the year 1782 and it contains amazing architecture inside for you to observe. The architecture itself is a blend between east and west which produces a great harmony. It is so beautiful that CNN has ranked this Grand Palace as the 3rd most visited Grand Palace in the world!

Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram or Wat Phra Kaew is the Royal temple located inside the Grand Palace. This temple is the location of Phra Kaew Morakot of Thailand which was crafted from emerald and it is both valuable and rare. The decoration will be different according to the season. You can see the beautiful wall arts inside the temple and around the terrace which tell stories about Ramakien and it is the longest wall arts in Thailand!

Wat Arun Ratchawararam is another famous temple that is worth mentioning about. It contains a Buddha statue near the Chao Phraya River which you can see from a far. It is almost like a symbol of Thailand. This statue has a height of 81.85 meters and it was decorated with tiles and Benjarong plates which have ancient and rare details. You can also see lights on this statue in the evening and it is very beautiful indeed. Another highlight of this temple is the two Yak statues in front of the temple?s door and they also has a myth of their own to tell.

Wat Pho is said to be the first university of Thailand with a huge amount of knowledge from many aspects with around 1,440 pieces of tablet. It has received the World Heritage award of the Asia Pacific region from UNESCO in 2008. This place has a beautiful sleeping Buddha with 46 meters in length. This temple is also the center of Thai massage with more than centuries of history. There are Thai massage school and Thai massage service as well. There are millions of people currently living inside Bangkok, but not all of them are originally from Bangkok itself. So, you may find it difficult to know the places that are highly recommended by the locals here. However, you do not need to worry because I am going to tell you all about those places!

 

One thing that you cannot miss at all costs when you are here in Bangkok is the boat tour of the Chao Phraya River. You can travel to various places such as temples, old town, market, and community malls like Asiatique the Riverfront. Asiatique is the biggest lifestyle shopping center in Thailand and it used to be the location of a cargo pier with over 100 years old.

Next up is Yod Pimarn River Walk which has an architecture of neo-classic colonial style. You can see the terrace along the river and other important attractions of Thailand here. There are even more interesting attractions and one day would not be enough to cover them all. More importantly, do not forget to take a boat tour of the Chao Phraya River at night. You will be able to perceive lights and sounds from various places between both sides of the river.

Next is the National Museum with over 140 years of operation time. It is far more than just a place that collects important artifacts from all around Thailand in which the showcase of these collection changes every now and then. Each of the artifact is more than a century old and some are more than a thousand years old. For example, there is a room that represents the arts from ancient Thai artists, the King and nobles? beautiful clothing which are really hard to find in Thailand. You can also see the room that display the story of highly advanced dancing in the Royalties.

If you really want to know the history and other stories concerning Bangkok, I highly recommend Rattanakosin Exhibition Hall which is a place that has all the most complete knowledge of arts, culture, and history of the Rattanakosin era in Thailand. The exhibition tells the story through multimedia platforms such as movies, lights and sound, and 3D medias.

 

Thailand is famous for its delicious food with a variety of restaurants and street food that contain tasty food and great reputation. Some of the most famous Thai food are Tom Yum Koong, Somtum, Padthai, and many more delicious dishes.

If you want to know which restaurant is great, you have to ask the local. However, if you are talking about the source of food with tremendous amount of reputation for many decades in Thailand, China Town would be the first to come up.

This street has amazingly delicious food in both main courses and desserts. Most shops start selling around 6pm onwards until midnight, but you should come early before they sold out!

 

Bangkok contains an old part of the city which has many beautiful buildings and these structures have a combination of styles from the western world and Thai such as Ta Tien, Ta Maharaj, Ta Phra Chun, and etc. Apart from the old buildings, there are many works of street art from both Thai and foreigners in which they helped create giant street arts in a variety of styles on many structures such as Charoen Krung district, Si Phraya, Talad Noi, and Bang Rak. Most of the district that have these arts are traditional communities which you can also experience traditional lifestyles of the people living there.

 

Bangkok is a shopping city in which there are many big department stores, but apart from that, there is also a market that you definitely need to shop at. My last place on the list has to be the Chatuchak Market. It is the biggest market in all of Thailand! During the weekend, there are various products within the market with over 9,000 shops to choose from. There are products like clothes, food, handmade products, and arts. You can bargain the price for a little at some shops here as well.

The next place is the Train Market which is a night market that opens from around evening to 1am. This place sells various meals from heavy to light meals such as dessert, including many other things to buy!

You can use the variety of public transit options around Bangkok such as BTS, MRT, Airport Rail Link, BRT, SRT, taxi, boat, tuktuk, public buses, and minibuses. You can feel free to use any ride-hailing application such as Grab and Lineman Taxi as well.

For accommodation

You can find any type of hotel inside Bangkok from cheap hostel to luxurious hotels. The price is not that cheap for mid-range and luxury hotels, but most budget hotels are very cheap to stay in. Have a great stay in Bangkok!
