Singburi – A City of Historic Importance of Heroes in Thailand

The province of Singburi is famous for the bravery act of its heroes of Bang Rachan in which they fend off the attackers from the village with the help from its own villagers. This is why this province has a lot of historical importance and attractions where you can find traces of this act preserved here.

General Information about Singburi, Thailand

The heroes of Bang Rachan are famously known for their self-defense camp which fends off the Burmese army by only a small number of soldiers, including villagers as well. You can ask most Thai people and they will know the story. If you want to see a monument of the past, they also have it here in this province. This is also a place where you can easily get to as the province is about 142 kilometers from Bangkok. The first way to get here is by using a car. You can ride a taxi here if you would like to. The second way is to take a bus from Bangkok near the Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road. There are also minibuses for you that you can take near the bus terminal. Enjoy the province!

The first temple on the list is Wat Phra Non Chak Sri Wora Wiharn and it is a special temple of this province. The temple is built in the era of Ayutthaya which is almost 500 years ago. You can see one of the biggest and longest sleeping Buddha statue in Thailand inside the temple. It is a statue of Sukhothai era with unique characteristics and beauty. Other than that, you can see more holy things inside that you can pay respect to such as Guan Yin, Luang Pho To, and more. In front of the temple, there is a giant cannonball tree in which it is a tree of Buddhism significance that blooms beautiful flowers on the entire tree.

This is another famous temple of Singburi with one of the biggest Buddha statues in Thailand with a height of 42 meters and you can see it from a distance. The interior of the statue is a mixture of concrete and the decoration of beautiful natural golden mosaic. Most of the people in the province are really faithful in this statue. You can also see a big Ganesha statue inside the temple which is in the middle of water and people can cross a bridge to pay respect.

In addition to the Bang Rachan Camp, there is a vintage market of Bang Rachan that opens every weekend located here. This market replicates the atmosphere of the Bang Rachan Camp and even the merchants are dress up exactly like the people or Bang Rachan Camp in the past. You can also rent a Thai costume of your own with various styles to choose from. It is a good idea to wear it and take pictures while you are strolling in the market. At the gate, you can go and take pictures with the warrior of Bang Rachan there as well. Inside of the market, there are Thai foods which include desserts and rare Thai ancient snacks. There are many shows to watch too if you are interested.

The most unique places in Thailand consists of very interesting attractions, but they are mostly what the locals are going occasionally in their every day lives. So, most of the tourists will not know the existence of these places and Lopburi has a lot of them to offer to its visitors here.

The last temple on the list is called Wat Sawang Arom. It is a temple with Nang Yai Museum inside of it. Nang Yai performance is a show that represents advanced art that is quite rare in Thailand. There are only two groups in Thailand which are still in business. One group is here, and another is at Wat Kanon in Ratchaburi. There are more than 270 character of Nang Yai at the museum in which all of them all characters from Ramakien. The show fully utilizes lights and shadows and accompany by dubs and Thai instrumental. If you are lucky, you may see them rehearsing and demonstrate how to use the Nang Yai in the show. I recommend that you call them first before going in there.

As Thailand is also famous for its temples, Wat Sai is another precious one. It is an old temple since the Ayutthaya era that only has some walls left without any ceiling. However, the banyan trees are what make this place lovely and chilling. The highlight here is the temple in which the roots of the banyan trees hold the walls together, so it will not crumble. You can see that it is a part of the walls itself and it is very beautiful.

The most famous souvenir of the province is Pla Chon Mae La which is a kind of snakehead murrel. The fish has a soft, but sticky texture to its meat with delicious taste. You can either grill or sun-dried it.

Also, there is a snakehead murrel cake here as well! It is the first and only place where you can find a cake with the fish inside of the cake. The original of this idea belongs to Kedsara and you must not miss it at all costs!
