General Information about Roi Et, Thailand
The province of Roi Et locates in the middle of the northeastern region of Thailand with a history of more than 200 years ago since the late Ayutthaya period. This province used to be pretty large with more than 11 city gates and many communities inside the city. However, the current Roi Et covers more than 8,000 square kilometers of land which separates into 17 districts.
The most notable thing here is Thung Kula Ronghai which is a region that has more than two million rai of land and covers about five provinces of Thailand. Three fifth of the land are here at Roi Et. This region used to be a dry land, and nothing can grow out of it, but King Bhumibol Adulyadej stepped in and helped this region with artificial rain and developed this region to become the largest rice field of the northeastern region!
To get into this province,
you can use any mean of transportation such as car, plane, and bus. Driving a car here may take you around seven hours, but the bus will take a little more. Happy traveling!

Wat Pa Namthip Prasit Wararam

The first famous temple at Roi Et is Wat Pa Namthip Prasit Wararam. This place has a Phra Maha Chedi Chai Mongkol which is the symbol of Roi Et and one of the most magnificent architecture of Thailand. This structure took more than 18 years to build with a width and height of 101 meters, respectively. You can see the total of eight Chedis in every direction of this structure. Both inside and outside of this structure contain modern Thai artworks that are pretty rare to see, and the decorations are beautiful beyond believe.
The tip of the Chedi is actually pure gold with about 60 kilograms of weight. Six levels inside of the structure are said to be like heaven on earth which is one of the more reasons why you should not miss this place at all costs!
Another famous temple is Wat Burapha Phiram which was built in the year 1973. It is the temple that has been recognized by everyone in Roi Et. The Buddha statue that people respects is called Luang Pho Yai. This is the highest Buddha statue with a standing posture and wish giving attitude in Thailand as well. You can really see this statue from a far in which it has a height of 67.85 meters. Around the temple you can see the only holy Buddha relics under the tree in Thailand and you should not miss seeing it.

Silk fabric with Saket pattern

If you are looking for souvenirs, the first recommended one is silk fabric with Saket pattern. This is a unique fabric only to this province. It combines 5 ancient patterns that are famous in Roi Et into one pattern which is very beautiful and almost look like it is in harmony. Each of the pattern will have pinkish purple color fabric with a design of a flower in the middle to separate the pattern. You can choose to buy from many patterns that are available, not just the Saket pattern. You can also buy other beautiful silk fabrics here.

Wat Pa Kung

The first recommended place here is Wat Pa Kung. This is the location of Maha Chedi which is the only structure that made out of natural sandstones in Thailand. The structure itself is a replication of Borobudur from Indonesia which is also a World Heritage. Inside of the temple, there is a Buddha relic in the middle of the Chedi and it is also a Maha Chedi that stack together for about seven levels. The first four levels have pictures that crafted into the sandstones which tell a story about Buddhism. The fifth level is the base of the Chedi and the sixth level is the place where they put the Chedi. However, the seventh level contains pure gold on the top of the Chedi. It is also considering to be one of the most beautiful Chedi in Thailand.

Soda Waterfall Cave

Next stop is Soda Waterfall Cave which has a height of around 50 meters. In fact, it is the most beautiful waterfall in Roi Et! If you come here during the rainy season from June to October, along the way you will see many small waterfalls surrounded by natural green forests and mountains, including weird-shaping rocks. At this waterfall, you can go in the water if you would like to and you can also see the magnificent views under the waterfall here.
The art street

If you are a person who love art, then this place is definitely for you. The street art wall at the art street is the place that literally has the longest artwork in all of Esan region. This wall is more than 200 meters long in which these artworks are beautifully done by more than 50 artists from Roi Et. The artworks reflect some perspectives, culture, and the local culture of the northeastern region and some of them are pretty gigantic and long. This wall is purely a beautiful sight to see and you should take some pictures!
